Brigade Electronics has launched a radar obstacle detection system, Backsense radar system, that improves safety by providing drivers with clear warnings of people or obstructions in the way of the vehicle.

  • Divides specified detection area into five zones
  • Provides visual and audible warning when objects enter hazard area
  • Features in-cab display with clear, easy-to-read visual warning, consisting of five LEDs corresponding to five distance zones from the vehicle
  • Warning buzzer has an adjustable sound level of 65 to 90dB making it audible in even the noisiest working environments
  • Robust sensor is impervious to water, dust and mud
  • Controls radar beam pattern so the spread of the beam can be restricted to the width of the plant (or beyond should the operator choose) for the length of the detection area to minimize false alerts on a busy site or in a crowded mine or quarry
  • Detection areas up to 30 m in length
  • Can be used to help drivers maintain safe braking distances when traveling in convoy with heavy loads
  • Four models are available
  • BS-8000 is fully programmable, offering a bespoke detection area from 3 to 30 m in length, with a width between 2 and 10 m
  • Five detection zones can be tailored to suit the vehicle and its surroundings, as can the zones in which the buzzer and other equipment, e.g. an external bbs-tek White Sound warning alarm, are activated
  • Parts of the plant intruding on the detection area can be programmed out
  • All configuration is done with simple-to-use PC-based software; no expensive programming tool has to be bought separately
  • Three models with fixed detection areas: 3 m, 4.5 m and 6 m in length are also available
