dSPACE has introduced a new, more powerful processing unit for its SCALEXIO hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) system to address the growing need for more real-time computation capability required for highly complex and high-fidelity simulation models. The increased computing power of the Intel Xeon E3 3.5 GHz processor will enable complex simulation scenarios for testing electronic control units (ECUs) in systems such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication, modern engine control units, and systems of systems engineering.

Exchanging and Reusing Simulation Models

The performance boost coming from the new processor makes it easier to reuse complex simulation models, used in a non-real-time PC environment from the model-based development phase, for testing of ECUs in the HIL real-time system without having to optimize them for real-time applications. As a result, the scenarios for validating E/E functionalities can be more realistic and complex, thereby increasing confidence in system performance and quality.

More I/O in HIL Tests

The increased computation power will enable engineers to increase the performance of their HIL systems used to test ECUs for applications such as simulating electric motors with short cycle times, testing ADAS or engine control units with a huge amount of I/O, and validating entire vehicle communication networks that require advanced I/O processing. SCALEXIO’s technology, with its advanced architecture, makes it a suitable test platform for small compact HIL systems in dedicated applications for validating complete vehicle systems in a simulated, efficient and safe environment.

Facts about SCALEXIO:

SCALEXIO, the dSPACE hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulator, is available from small to large systems while providing very high processing power. It is configured entirely by software, which makes adapting to changing requirements flexible and easy. SCALEXIO can be coupled with other dSPACE HIL systems, such as Simulator Full-Size and Simulator Mid-Size, offering an easy way to update existing HIL systems.
