EX Series Engines

Subaru’s EX Series engines are the first to utilize high performance chain-driven overhead cam (OHC) technology in the industrial air-cooled market.

• Four models: EX13, EX17, EX21 and EX27 models, which produce 4.5-, 6-, 7- and 9-hp
• All models comply with both EPA and CARB emission regulations
• Chain-driven OHC technology allows the intake and exhaust valves to be positioned for optimum engine performance; lowers resistance for the air/fuel mixture flow
• Pent-roof-type combustion chamber able to utilize high compression ratio
• Automatic decompression system reduces required recoil pulling force by 30 to 40%
• Starts are fast with no perceptible kickback
• Fewer parts for less mechanical noise and optimized-capacity rigid mufflers make the EX engines a full 2dBA quieter
• Heat dissipation fins built into mounting base, cylinder and both the inner and outer crankcase surfaces
• Allows for 360-degree airflow around both the exhaust and intake valve stem areas
• Oil scraper attached to the connecting rod supplies oil to the cam chain which then carries the oil to the overhead cam and valve train
• Rocker cover design and breather system keep the camshaft and rocker arm in oil, prevent spouting
• Simplified maintenance through high parts commonality; over 50% of parts shared
• Ideal for use in general construction equipment, compaction equipment, portable generators, pumps, compressors and other industrial engine applications
