Production agriculture safety, health issues are focus of ASHCA workshop at AG CONNECT Expo 2011 "Preview Day"

Proven, evidence-based strategies will be highlighted during ASHCA's workshop, "Practical Safety and Health Risk Management in Production Agriculture."

The Agricultural Safety and Health Council of America (ASHCA) will host a special workshop during AG CONNECT Expo 2011's Preview Day, January 7, 2011 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Proven, evidence-based strategies will be highlighted during ASHCA's workshop, "Practical Safety and Health Risk Management in Production Agriculture." The workshop is open to all Preview Day attendees. ASHCA workshop registration includes free admission to the AG CONNECT preview day, giving attendees the added value of convenient access to the trade show upon conclusion of the workshop.

ASHCA's 2011 Annual Meeting will be January 6, while AG CONNECT Expo is slated for January 8-10, 2011 (Preview Day January 7, by special admission), both at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia. AG CONNECT is a world-class trade show, offering not only the latest innovations, products, services and technology and access to industry experts but also quality learning and networking opportunities.

"One of the important roles that ASHCA plays is to discover and disseminate proven safety and health interventions," said Dan Hair, ASHCA Vice Chair and Senior Vice President, Workers Compensation Fund. "Feedback from our January 2010 groundbreaking conference in Dallas taught us that agricultural producers are willing to implement good ideas and programs that have been shown to be effective at reducing work-related injuries and illnesses."

Topics at the ASHCA workshop include: creating a culture of safety among agricultural workers, training with a mobile safety trailer, utilizing safety competition to teach about hazards, reducing insurance premiums, and a statewide agricultural safety certification program.

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), the owner and producer of AG CONNECT, has historically been deeply involved in the issues facing the agricultural industry, and AEM and AG CONNECT Expo work to foster relationships with leading industry organizations to advance agriculture.

Charlie O'Brien, AEM's vice president agricultural sector, states, "Manufacturers are committed to helping foster a safe working environment and they participate in a variety of AEM programs that promote safety awareness and accident prevention. AG CONNECT is a platform and industry gathering place for agriculture so holding the ASHCA events with AG CONNECT saves time and money for attendees and enhances the industry networking at the show."
