Obama Administration Announces New Funding Available for Advanced Biofuels

New funding opportunity from the DOE, U.S. Navy and USDA focuses on advancing the research and availability of commercial-scale drop-in biofuels.

The Obama Administration has announced new funding will be available to further advance the availability of biofuel technologies. Funding from the U.S. Department of Agrulculture (USDA), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Navy will be matched to private investments in commercial-scale drop-in biofuels.

Funding will also be made available for early-stage research of new biofuels and technologies to reduce production costs of the fuels.

A two-phase approach has been put into place in order for applicants to receive funding. Phase 1 consists of applicants submitting a design package and comprehensive business plan for commercial-scale biorefinery. Those selected to move on to Phase 2 will be asked to submit information on the construction or retrofitting of a biorefinery.
