Jatropha Biofuels Found to Produce More Emissions Than Fossil Fuels

A new study finds the entire production process for jatropha biofuel could produce up to six times more emissions than fossil fuels.

A recent study for the anti-poverty agency ActionAid found that Jatropha biofuel produces more greenhouse gas emissions than fossil fuels. 

The study analyzed the production process of a proposed 50,000 hectare jatropha plantation development in Kenya. After examining the entire production process—from clearing the woodland, planting, harvesting, refining and transporting the jatropha—the biofuel was found to produce 2.5 to six times more emissions than fossil fuels.
