Grede Holdings LLC announces that two of its manufacturing facilities have achieved one million man-hours without a lost time accident: the Iron Mountain foundry located in Kingsford, MI, and the foundry in Bessemer, AL.

The Iron Mountain facility achieved one million man-hours on May 10, 2011. The facility has 433 employees and has had only two injuries over the past two years. It was the corporate winner of the 2010 Eagle Award for the safest plant in the company.
The Grede foundry in Bessemer, AL, has not recorded a lost time accident since October 2007. All 155 plant employees celebrated the milestone recently with an in-plant event.
The safety milestones were determined by using DART (Days Away, Restricted or Transferred), which is a mathematical calculation that uses the man-hours worked to describe the number of recordable incidents per 100 employees that resulted in lost or restricted days. Industries can compare performance using this calculation. The National average DART rate for foundries is 5.4 incidents resulting in lost or restricted days per 100 employees. All Grede locations combined are 1.3 incidents, while the Iron Mountain and Bessemer foundries are currently at zero.
