The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) announces that Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has joined the elite ranks of the I Make America campaign’s Gold-level company supporters.
I Make America is a grassroots campaign that was launched in September 2010 to dramatically improve American manufacturing policies to create more jobs in the U.S. and keep our economy competitive with other countries.
“We commend Volvo CE for achieving Gold status in the I Make America campaign,” says Dennis Slater, president of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). “As a member of AEM, Volvo CE exemplifies the commitment we need from all manufacturers around the country to send the message to Congress and the White House that our economy is in urgent need of a new manufacturing policy that will create jobs.”
“We all want the best for America,” says Bill Law, head of corporate communications for Volvo’s construction division in the Americas. “Initiatives such as I Make America are excellent ways to focus everyone’s attention on using the muscle of the construction industry to get the giant wheel of the U.S. economy spinning at top speed again and, as such, Volvo is very pleased to be able to play a part in the campaign.”
According to AEM, I Make America Gold-Level supporters are an important group of companies that have achieved participation benchmarks marking them as industry leaders, including significant employee involvement; outreach to their state, local and federal legislators; promoting campaign sign-ups at trade shows and with allied trade associations; and production of a video telling the story of how their companies, employees and communities “make America.”
Volvo is currently in the process of making a $100 million investment in its facilities in Shippensburg, PA, bringing local production of some core products to North America and creating a world class customer and demonstration center as well as creating an Americas Headquarters facility on the current campus.
