KAMAG Transporttechnik develops its largest slag pot carrier

The Type 2802-130 with a U-frame basis is KAMAG Transporttechnik's largest slag pot carrier to date offering a 130 tonne payload.

In order to meet the increasing demands of the steel works regarding loading quantity, loading height and loading time, KAMAG Transporttechnik developed its biggest-ever slag pot carrier, the Type 2802-130 on a U-frame basis. The first delivered model has recently been impressively proving its worth under extreme operating conditions at the Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel plant in Oman. Optimal use of resources and innovation-oriented are placed high on the agenda of the company - with the KAMAG Type 2802-130, these considerations have been rigorously implemented in terms of slag transportation. The higher payload of the vehicle fully conforms with the trend towards increasing larger converter sizes, and the U-frame design dramatically reduces the pick-up and set-down times.

The 82-tonne heavyweight vehicle is 11.9 meters long, 7.7 meters wide, 4.3 meters high and can transport payloads of up to 130 tonnes. The slag pot carrier is driven by a Caterpillar C15 diesel engine with 403 kW (548 hp) at 2,100 revolutions per minute (rpm). The single-axle prime mover efficiently pulls the 5.8 meter long and 4.35 meter high slag pot - with a capacity of 45 m3 - and has been newly developed by KAMAG in order to transport the ever increasing loads without any problems. The 2800 Series represents slag pot carriers constructed using a U-frame design which are used, for example, for handling slag pots in areas of restricted heights, e.g. driving through production facility doorways. Here, the rear end of the vehicle encircles the slag pot which is then lifted to the designated transport height. A tipping angle of up to 130 degrees is standard. The main advantages of this series are the low pick-up height and short pick-up time. The vehicle can easily be modified for the transportation of molten steel.
