One of the star attractions on the Hyundai stand at INTERMAT, alongside its stable mate the HL955, will be the brand new 18 tonne HL960 wheel loader. The HL in the model number is translated as Hyundai Loader – all future models will adopt the new coding.

Completely new design

The new wheel loader is powered by a Stage IV 168 kW Cummins QSB6.7 engine. The HL range is the latest revolution in Hyundai wheel loaders. The completely redesigned range features a host of new components including a new state of the art cabin and a whole new concept for man-machine-interaction.

The all-new spacious cabin is designed to be ergonomic and distinctive with softer and more eye-catching lines. For ease of maintenance, the engine hood can now be electrically opened revealing the complete engine. Special care has also been given to the redesign of the boom and the bucket.

Bucket upgrade

The 18,000 kg (18 tonne) wheel loader HL960 is equipped with a standard 3.3 m3 bucket. The Hyundai design team has redesigned the loader buckets so they now have a better fill factor, an additional spill guard and changeable heel plates.

Cabin comfort

The cabin of the new HL wheel loader generation is wider and higher than its predecessor.  The larger windows offer an improved all-round view of both working equipment and the machines working environment – making it much safer for the operator. Hyundai has also paid special attention to soundproofing the new cab and the new generation cabs are three to four decibels quieter than the previous version.

A new electro-hydraulic joystick takes control of all operations and replaces the previous hydraulic joystick control. The ergonomic joysticks are built into the adjustable armrests. All these new features make the new HL-Hyundai wheel loaders more precise and more efficiently operated.

Touchscreen technology

In the cab is the new and larger 7-inch touchscreen monitor (18 cm) – the new screen can be operated when wearing gloves which can only be good news for the operator in the colder months. Hyundai says this new feature, ‘Is important news and provides better efficiency, easier control and more options for man-machine-communication.’ The new touchscreen monitor is ‘user friendly’ and offers even more functions than the previous monitor. The main view of the screen can also be adjusted according to the preferences of the operator and can be controlled via touch control. The connection to a mobile phone is easier than ever.

The new display also makes it easy to monitor the machine and gives the driver additional information about the status of major components which include fluid levels and other parameters. The display can also be used for selecting different working modes. Hyundai says that connection to a mobile phone is also easier with this system.

Maintenance made easy

The bonnet is now folded electrically to the back in one piece - this improves accessibility to all components.

Improved efficiency – more green and clean

The new engines comply with Stage IV latest emission standards for the reduction of particles and Nox in exhaust gasses. Hyundai has chosen a combined solution with EGR and SCR technology. This results in a reduction of fuel consumption of 3 to 6% dependent on the machines activity.

The first HL models were available at INTERMAT. By the end of 2015, the HL-Series will be fully available to 7 m³ bucket capacity. Upcoming models in the series include the HL965, HL970, HL 975 and HL980.
