Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, the North American leader in the development and manufacture of active safety and braking system technologies for commercial vehicles, receives three Supplier Quality Excellence Process awards from Caterpillar Inc. During an awards presentation at the Bendix Huntington, IN, manufacturing facility, Bendix was honored in the following business categories: OEM air treatment products, remanufactured air compressors, and service parts. The awards recognize consistent production practices, delivery levels, and a robust continuous improvement agenda. Bendix received the Silver level designation for its legacy air treatment products, as well as its remanufactured air compressors used by Caterpillar. It was awarded a Bronze award for its packaging and distribution of replacement service parts and kits for Caterpillar.
Achievement of this supplier certification by Bendix validates its understanding of Caterpillar's expectations of a world-class supply base, and also supports Bendix's commitment to helping Caterpillar deliver the highest level of quality to their products and services.
"Making quality and our customers a priority in every action, every process, every day is a passion shared by Bendix employees here in Huntington and all across our North American operations," says Lori Mickley, Huntington Quality Manager. Being recognized for that commitment by the team at Caterpillar reflects not only the rock solid understanding of our corporate-wide Quality policy and practices, but also our ability to effectively integrate them into the workplace.
The Bendix Huntington manufacturing operation is a great success story for the commercial vehicle industry. The operation consists of four facilities, representing more than 45% of the overall business for Bendix.
Operating in Huntington for more than 25 years, Bendix employs more than 400 Indiana residents at its Huntington facilities and is one of Huntington County's largest employers. The Huntington site began its first remanufacturing operation in 1980 and has since become the primary North American distribution center for Bendix. The basis of the Huntington remanufacturing business is primarily focused on compressors, a product considered to be the heart of a vehicle's air brake system. In the past 10 years, Bendix has remanufactured more than 1.3 million compressors in Huntington.
"We are truly honored to receive Caterpillar's prestigious Silver level supplier certification status for remanufacturing. Being honored in three business categories speaks to the strong commitment to quality and excellent work that the employees at our Huntington facility embody," says Mike Pogorelc, Huntington Plant Manager. "As the Bendix business in Huntington continues to grow, we will continue to build solid relationships with customers, like Caterpillar, by consistently delivering superior products, service, and support."
