Hitachi Previews New ZX345USLC-6 Reduced-Tail-Swing Excavator at CONEXPO-CON/AGG

The Hitachi ZX345USLC-6 features a three-pump hydraulic system that provides greater flow for attachments, fast cycle times and improved fuel economy.

Hitachi Construction Machinery gave CONEXPO-CON/AGG visitors a first look at the new ZX345USLC-6.

The new model, which is in the 33- to 40-metric-ton size class, will become Hitachi’s largest ultrashort excavator when it is released to the market in early 2018.

“As the number of urban renewal projects increase, there is a clear need among contractors for a larger reduced-tail-swing excavator that will help them tackle larger projects in a reduced amount of time,” says Carlos Uriarte, Division Sales Manager at Hitachi Construction Machinery – Americas. “The new ZX345USLC-6 will offer contractors the increased reach, dig forces, bucket capacity and lift capacity they are looking for, while simultaneously making it possible to work in tight, confined spaces. The ZX345USLC-6 is equipped with a powerful EPA Tier 4 Final (T4F)/EU Stage IV Isuzu engine complete with integrated, effective engine technologies and does not require a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Built with the same toughness as Hitachi’s large mining excavators, the ZX345USLC-6 will deliver the efficiency, reliability and durability the brand is known for.

Efficiency

The ZX345USLC-6’s reduced-tail-swing design eases jobsite maneuverability and increases application versatility.

The excavator features a unique three-pump hydraulic system that provides greater flow for attachments, fast cycle times and improved fuel economy. When demanded, the third pump supplies additional hydraulic oil to the swing circuit without stealing oil and speed from other functions in order to maximize productivity.

Optional auxiliary hydraulics with programmable attachment modes and proportional control help improve productivity on the jobsite.

Reliability

The new excavator features a T4F Isuzu engine that is fuel-efficient and saves on service time.

The Isuzu engine employs cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR). Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is injected into the exhaust stream of the engine, runs through a catalyst, and turns the NOx in the exhaust into harmless water vapor and nitrogen gas. The EGR is specifically tuned to further reduce NOx (compared to EPA Tier 4 Interim [T4I]/EU Stage IIIB engines) to meet new emission standards with minimal use of DEF. Additionally, an improved piston design allows particulate matter to be burned in cylinder, so there’s no need for a DPF.

Durability

D-channel side frames house and protect the highly efficient coolers and T4F engine. The boom, arm and mainframe are so tough, they’re warranted for three years or 10,000 hours, whichever comes first. With large idlers, rollers and strutted track links, the sealed and lubricated undercarriage is built for the long haul.

Uptime

Maintenance for the ZX345USLC-6 is minimized with features such as side-by-side cooling cores. Extended service intervals help maximize uptime, and scheduled maintenance is easy to track using Hitachi’s ZXLink system, which comes standard equipped on the model.

ZXLink gives owners the power to optimize their operation and maximize profits. With the support of their dealer, owners can use their data to reduce idling time as well as maximize productivity and uptime. Without ever leaving their seat, they have access to fleet location, functions, hours, fuel consumption, alerts and other essential machine data. Owners can also view location and alert information in the field from iOS or Android devices.
