"CANopen" and "CiA" word-marked
CiA gives its members the right to use the "CANopen" and "CiA" word-marks for their products and services.

"CANopen" and "CiA" are now word-marked in Europe for the non-profit CiA organization. CiA gives to all of its members and those companies, to whom CiA has assigned a CANopen vendor-ID, the right to use the "CANopenŽ" and "CiAŽ" word-marks for their products and services. All other companies are not allowed to use the word-marked terms for products and services.

The word-mark registration will increase the quality of products claiming to be CANopen devices, because CiA has now the possibility to forbid using the CANopen naming, if the products doesn't fulfill the related specifications. "The word-marks protects those companies implementing properly CANopen and other CiA specifications," explained Holger Zeltwanger, CiA Managing Director.

CANopen is a family of specifications comprising the CANopen application layer, device and application profiles as well as several protocols such as CANopen Safety. CANopen networks are used in machine control, construction machines (including harbor cranes), medical devices, rail-vehicles, lift (elevator) control, maritime electronics, and many other embedded control applications.
