What Will 2019 Hold?

After a rather intensely covered mid-term with some record breaking participation, I would be remiss to not try and evaluate what the results mean for the industry. The cynic in me worries that for the next 2 years, absolutely nothing will get accomplished with a Democratic House and a Republican Senate. But, the optimist in me hopes that bipartisan priorities like rebuilding our country's infrastructure will be robust and fruitful for heavy-duty equipment manufacturers.

AEM's Senior VP of Government and Industry Relations, Nick Yaksich, drew attention to several governors that have made pledges to tackle their state's infrastructure, which is "good news for equipment manufacturers who build the equipment needed for construction and agriculture infrastructure projects. That's also good news for the 1.3 million men and women equipment manufacturers support, with the opportunity for many more to be hired thanks to a modernization of our nation's infrastructure."

I will be closely watching how other pressing issues like trade policy and tariffs unfold in the coming year. To read more of Yaksich's article, "Post-2018 Midterm Election Insights for Equipment Manufacturers," go to oemoh.com/Yaksich-AEM-midterm

2019 will also bring back bauma to Munich, Germany. The show is (again) going to be the largest ever with two new indoor halls and over 600,000 sq. m of exhibit space. If the show gets any bigger, we may as well call it the City of bauma and consider ourselves temporary residents every 3 years.

Don't forget that OEM Off-Highway will have a booth at the show, so you can stop by, have a seat and have a chat. Visit us at booth EOE.08/A right at the East Entrance.
