Finnish family-owned company Mantsinen has recently standardized all of its largest hydraulic material handling cranes with Volvo Penta engines after becoming aware of the benefits of the brand and switching from a competitor’s engines.
Three models of Mantsinen material handling cranes will now come installed with Volvo Penta engines, including the Mantsinen 120, 160 and 200, with dead weights of up to 130, 190 and 250 tonnes, respectively — as much as double the handling capacity of competitor machines. Each boasting a reach between 27 and 37 meters — greater than most other hydraulic material handlers — Mantsinen’s range offers a quick, cost-effective alternative to traditional mobile harbor cranes. The machines’ energy storage and recovery system, HybriLift, also improves energy efficiency by up to 35%.
For these three machines, Volvo Penta is providing its new Stage IV/Tier 4 Final 13-liter TAD1374VE (375 kW and 2,540 Nm torque) or the Stage II 16-liter TAD1643VE (565 kW and 3,287 Nm torque), depending on market. The TAD1374VE meets Stage IV/Tier 4 Final emissions legislation demands with simple and straightforward SCR (selective catalyst reduction) technology, rather than a diesel particulate filter (DPF), which requires more maintenance.
“We made the switch to Volvo Penta because we were attracted to its quality, reliability and excellent reputation,” says Jukka Hämäläinen, Vice President of Business Development at Mantsinen. “But its quick delivery time was a key factor as well. We have customers in Tier 4 Final markets and in emerging markets, so we need different kinds of engines at our disposal. Volvo Penta makes sure we can get the engines we need right away so that we don’t have to keep so many in stock.”
The first Volvo Penta-installed Mantsinen 120 R machines will be delivered in July, as will the first Mantsinen 200 M, which is the world’s largest hydraulic material handler.
