The Freightliner Cascadia can now be spec’d with the new AeroSmart and SmartAdvantage Powertrain packages. These options are designed to further enhance the industry-leading efficiency and performance of the Cascadia.

“Our objective is to always provide our customers with impactful solutions that will help them lower their Real Cost of Ownership,” says Mary Aufdemberg, Director of Product Marketing for Freightliner Trucks. “These packages are just one of many competitive advantages we provide that benefit operational efficiency.”

The new AeroSmart package allows the latest aerodynamic components available for the Cascadia to be easily combined with the SmartAdvantage powertrain. Customers will be able to quickly spec and order the best aerodynamic package for their business, to help them achieve the best fuel economy possible.

Developed by Cummins and Eaton, the SmartAdvantage optimized powertrain improves fuel economy by 1.5% when compared to a truck spec’d with a Cummins ISX15 engine and Eaton UltraShift PLUS LAS transmission.

The SmartAdvantage powertrain combines the power of the Cummins ISX15 with SmartTorque2 with the smooth shifting of the Eaton Fuller Advantage 10-Speed automated transmission. The engine and transmission share critical data to determine the torque required to deliver the right power, resulting in a more efficient performance.

Available exclusively with the SmartAdvantage Powertrain, the Cummins ISX15 with SmartTorque2 is ideal for on-highway applications. Higher torque is delivered earlier in the RPM range, enabling trucks to cruise at 1,150 to 1,240 rpms while still maintaining the torque and power needed.

The transmission also includes new features, such as the use of lightweight components and precision lubrication. Small gear steps enable downspeeding in overdrive and efficiency in direct drive, and optimized shifting is based on grade, vehicle weight, engine torque and throttle position. Fuel economy is further enhanced through the lubrication design, which reduces churning losses and eliminates the need for a cooler in most applications.

The AeroSmart and SmartAdvantage powertrain packages are now available to order.
