Eaton has introduced a family of Advantor automated manual transmissions (AMTs), purpose-built for fleets to deliver greater efficiency, superior drivability and lower total cost of ownership in the next generation of commercial trucks and buses.

Designed with OEMs and end users' challenges in mind, the Advantor lineup offers 6-, 8- and 10-speed models tailored for light-, medium-, and medium-heavy duty applications. By blending advanced automation with smart, adaptive controls and application-specific tuning, the transmissions aim to help manufacturers create vehicles that feel more responsive and intuitive while delivering real-world performance gains across diverse operating conditions.

According to the company, the line represents a new chapter in intelligent drivetrains. “It gives OEMs a powerful way to boost fuel efficiency — up to 10% better than manual transmissions and up to 20% versus traditional automatics — while improving vehicle uptime, extending component life and simplifying integration into today’s platforms. Fleets win with lower operating costs and drivers enjoy a smoother, more confident experience behind the wheel," said Marcos Janasi, business unit director, Commercial Powertrain, Eaton’s Mobility segment.

Advantor features Eaton’s automation technology, combining an electronically controlled X-Y shifter, pneumatic clutch actuation, inertia brake and an intelligent transmission control unit powered by advanced software. Built on a common software architecture, the system continuously analyzes road conditions, vehicle load and driver input to optimize shift timing and clutch engagement in real time.

Features such as Load-Based Shifting, Smart Gear Selection, Hill Start Aid and Engine Overspeed Protection work together to enhance drivability, improve efficiency and help protect drivetrain components.

A strength of this line is its high degree of component commonality across models. This shared architecture not only streamlines manufacturing and assembly for vehicle builders but also simplifies service and maintenance through common components and service procedures.

Advantor is engineered for strong long-term value, with extended oil drain intervals of up to 700,000 kilometers in certain configurations and efficiency improvements that support lower emissions. Its flexible design allows for easy integration across a wide variety of vehicle platforms, giving OEMs the freedom to enhance performance without adding unnecessary complexity.

The 6-speed model is optimized for lighter-duty trucks and buses with torque ratings up to 700 Nm and 14-ton GVW, while the 8-speed targets medium-duty bus and truck applications up to 1,300 Nm. The 10-speed variant, also up to 1,300 Nm torque capacity, brings robust capability to medium-heavy duty trucks, excelling in both linehaul and vocational roles, such as construction, agricultural and refuse trucks applications.
