Technology News Tracker: Two-Speed Transmission Aids Efficiency of Electric Vehicles

The Ingear transmission features a patented geometry which keeps the motor and wheels in sync, enabling continuous torque flow throughout the shifting process.

Inmotive has launched the Ingear two-speed transmission for electric vehicles. The Ingear replaces the second reduction gear typically used in EVs with a continuous chain drive and a morphing sprocket.

Its patented geometry keeps the motor and wheels in sync, enabling continuous torque flow throughout the shifting process. The transmission enables more efficient drivetrain operation, reducing wasted energy which equates to more battery charge time.

Ingear allows OEMs to customize the size and scale of the technology to suit their individual application needs. The technology can be adapted to a range of vehicle types, including commercial and off-highway vehicles.
