Bendix Named Leader-Level Recipient of PACCAR’s Supplier Performance Management Award

The Supplier Performance Management program evaluates a supplier’s performance in the areas of product development, operations support, and business alignment with PACCAR objectives.

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC announces it has been named as a Leader-level recipient of truck manufacturer PACCAR’s prestigious annual Supplier Performance Management (SPM) Award. All 2018 SPM Award recipients were honored December 6 in Bellevue, WA.

“Manufacturing world-class vehicles takes precise execution, a shared commitment to excellence, and a strong relationship built on collaboration and communication. PACCAR’s expectations of its suppliers reflect exactly that, and the entire Bendix team takes pride in the work we do to meet those expectations,” says Michael J. Hawthorne, Bendix President and CEO. “Achieving excellence isn’t just about checking boxes: It’s about realizing the highest level of service, performance, and responsiveness; rolling up our sleeves to understand our customer; and driving forward together.”

Headquartered in Elyria, OH, Bendix – the North American leader in the development and manufacture of active safety, air management, and braking solutions for commercial vehicles – operates manufacturing facilities in Acuña, Mexico; Bowling Green, KY; Huntington, IN; Lebanon, TN; and North Aurora, IL.

PACCAR is a global technology leader in the design, manufacture, and customer support of high-quality light-, medium-, and heavy-duty trucks under the DAF, Kenworth, Leyland, and Peterbilt brands. Its SPM program evaluates a supplier’s performance in the areas of product development, operations support, and business alignment with PACCAR objectives. Through the SPM program, suppliers and PACCAR cross-functional teams collaborate to identify performance enhancements and develop product innovations.

“Given the complexities of our components and the breadth of our product line, earning an SPM Award in 2017 was significant – the result of a total team effort across all our North American facilities,” says Bendix Chief Operating Officer Carlos Hungria. “And we wasted no time in putting the insight gained through that process to work toward even higher goals in 2018: We reviewed our efforts and progress regularly with PACCAR leadership, discussed their aspirations for partnerships with aligned values, high-level performance, and shared strategies – and we accomplished something extraordinary. To be among those honored with a Leader-level SPM Award is truly noteworthy for our team across North America.”

Last year, PACCAR named Bendix to its list of premier suppliers that meet the OEM’s rigorous quality expectation of 10 PPM for parts and components. Bendix’s Huntington, IN, and Bowling Green, KY, operations both earned that distinction, which is measured on a rolling 12-month basis. To achieve this distinction, PACCAR-approved suppliers must meet a range of criteria – in areas that include warranty, quality system certifications, on-time submission rates, and more – in addition to sustaining a non-conforming parts rate below 10 PPM (product defects expressed in Parts Per Million). In addition, honorees must pass PACCAR’s Supplier Readiness Review.

Through an ever-growing portfolio of technology developments and dedicated post-sales support, Bendix delivers on areas critical to the commercial vehicle industry, including safety, vehicle performance, and efficiency. For nearly 90 years, the company has worked toward safer roads for everyone, helping to lower the total cost of commercial vehicle ownership and strengthen return on investment in safety technologies.
