Leading gear and drive solutions provider, Oerlikon’s Drive Systems Segment, will show the latest technologies from its brand Oerlikon Fairfield at bauma 2016, which takes place in Munich, Germany, from April 11-17. Technical highlights from the company’s portfolio of integrated hydraulic drives and electrically-driven components will be displayed alongside the innovative Hybrid Drive, a hybrid-electric driveline that is able to deliver an improvement in fuel economy of up to 30%.

Oerlikon Fairfield will use bauma 2016 to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to developing market-leading technologies that benefit the efficiency, durability and performance of off-highway vehicles, focusing on mining and construction equipment market.

“bauma 2016 offers an opportunity for Oerlikon Fairfield to demonstrate its broad and continually expanding expertise in the off-highway sector, as well as sharing innovations developed to enable greater efficiency and reduced emissions,” explains Gunnar Stein, Chief Technology Officer, Oerlikon’s Drive Systems Segment. “We will present a wide range of our gear and drive solutions, all of which are developed to satisfy the industry’s demand for extended vehicle operating life, improved performance and smoother operation, to enhance operator comfort.”

Central to the Oerlikon Fairfield display at bauma 2016 will be a selection of components from its Hybrid Drive series-electric driveline system, including the electrically driven wheel end and generator set. Featuring an ultracapacitor-based energy storage system and enabling optimal engine efficiency through constant speed operation, Hybrid Drive offers an improvement in fuel economy of up to 30%. The lack of a mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels – the torque converter, transmission gearing, differentials and couplings are all eliminated – increases driveline durability overall, with regenerative braking also contributing to longer operating life by reducing heat load on the wheel ends. Hybrid Drive is currently being evaluated for production by a manufacturer of construction equipment.

Other technologies will also be presented on the Oerlikon’s Drive Systems Segment stand (Hall A - booth 149):

  • The Compact Track Loader (CTL) fully integrated drive, which features a two-speed hydraulic motor and integrated brakes, is designed for use in track driven utility vehicles. Two models are available, the 5,000 Nm CT05 and the 7,000 Nm CT07.
  • Hydrostatic Torque-Hub drives from the Champion Series, a range of three wheel-drives delivering wheel propulsion benefits where speed, heat and high radial load are particular concerns, are represented by a 17,000 Nm CO17 model. This is one of two specifications in production, the other being the 26,000 Nm CO26. A 13,000 Nm unit will join the range later this year.
  • A selection of Oerlikon Fairfield 7000 series drives, which provide up to 7,000Nm of torque for a range of motive and industrial requirements, will be displayed in conjunction with electric motors from a number of suppliers in order to demonstrate connectivity in a number of different applications.

During the bauma show, technical staff and top management will be available to answer any question regarding the technologies.

bauma 2016 is the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment. More than 3,400 exhibitors will be present at the 31st running of the event.
