New emissions data from multiple sources confirms a fleet that converts to propane autogas vehicles will have a significant impact on its emissions profile — without breaking the bank.
Among the results found as part of a recent study — commissioned by PERC and conducted by the Gas Technology Institute — propane autogas light-duty trucks produced 12% fewer greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than gasoline. For medium-duty commercial trucks, recent engine technology advancements have dramatically reduced nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. These “low NOx” engines produce NOx emissions that fall 75% below the requirement set by the EPA.
“Whether you’re talking diesel, gasoline, or even natural gas, these emissions figures reinforce that no other fuel can compare to propane autogas when you consider the dollars invested per ton of emissions reduced,” says Michael Taylor, PERC Director of Autogas Business Development. “For many businesses operating fleet vehicles, emissions reductions are hugely important right now, but the solution still has to be cost effective, which propane autogas is.”
Propane autogas offers a fast ROI over the life of the vehicle because the fuel costs less, there are no pricey particulate filters required to operate cleanly, and it doesn’t require complex emissions systems that typically necessitate costly repairs and maintenance.
