The U.S. House of Representatives approved a short-term transportation bill on July 15 which would provide $8 billion in funding to ensure states can continue with their highway and infrastructure projects before funding expires at the end of the month. The new bill would extend funding for another five months until December 18.
There is still much debate between Democrats and Republicans about the need for a long-term bill and how to fund it. Supporters of the House bill say the short-term bill will provide Congress time to come up a longer term solution to maintain the Highway Trust Fund.
