The following is a statement from Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) President Dennis Slater following the October 27 vote in the House to approve legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank of the United States:
"On behalf of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, I want to congratulate members of the House of Representatives for voting today to reinstate and reauthorize the Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank of the United States. Today’s vote represents a major show of support for manufacturing jobs and a wholesale rejection of ideological special interest groups in Washington.
"Promoting U.S. exports and global trade is essential to the health of manufacturing in the United States. Many of AEM’s members are perfect examples of the small and midsized manufacturers who rely upon the Ex-Im Bank to fill gaps in private finance and expand their business in new markets for their products abroad.
"But Congress’ work is not done yet. Now that a clear majority of the House and Senate has gone on record and voted to restore the Export-Import Bank’s charter, Senate leaders should now work expeditiously to ensure that a small minority of lawmakers are not permitted to upend the will of Congress. We look forward to conveying this perspective to members of the House and Senate in the days and weeks to come."
