Eberspächer
Purem by Eberspaecher has developed a portfolio of components and systems designed to optimize the operation of fuel cells in mobile and stationary applications. The new offerings focus on increasing fuel utilization managing system byproducts and controlling air flow.
The components are intended to support the use of hydrogen as an alternative drive technology for industry and mobility. The portfolio includes a hydrogen recirculation blower a modular exhaust air system and various balance of plant components.
Hydrogen Recirculation Blower Improves Fuel Utilization The hydrogen recirculation blower (HRB) recirculates hydrogen efficiently, ensuring a high conversion of energy sources in fuel cells.Eberspächer
A key component in the portfolio is the Hydrogen Recirculation Blower (HRB) which is designed to improve the utilization of hydrogen within the fuel cell stack. The HRB recirculates unused hydrogen back into the supply path to minimize losses and increase fuel efficiency.
The HRB is based on the Eberspaecher VAIREX air recirculation blower and uses side channel compressor technology. It has been adapted with specific alloys and materials to meet the impermeableness requirements for use with hydrogen. Purem by Eberspaecher plans to begin practical tests with customers at the end of 2025 and anticipates starting production in 2027.
Modular System Manages Exhaust Air
The company is also offering a modular exhaust air system to manage the water steam created as a byproduct of the fuel cell’s chemical process and to reduce noise emissions. The system can be configured with specially developed water separators designed for high mass flows with low back pressure and high separation efficiency.
To comply with noise regulations the system can also include silencers for both the intake and exhaust paths. The silencers are designed to be resistant to high humidity and water condensation.
Balance of Plant Components for System Control
Purem by Eberspaecher has developed several production-ready balance of plant components based on its existing valve technology from exhaust systems. The Gas Control Valve acts as a bypass or throttle valve to ensure reliable control of mass flows.EberspächerThese include:
Gas Control Valve: A compact component that controls air flow and pressure. It can be used as either a bypass or throttle valve.
Cathode Isolation Valve: This valve hermetically seals the cathode path to protect against leakage and prevent premature aging of the system.
