The EPA has launched its Cleaner Trucks Initiative aimed at further reducing NOx emissions from on-highway heavy-duty trucks and engines.
It will update the existing NOx standard last set in 2001 while streamlining compliance and certification requirements.
The EPA intends to publish a proposed rule in early 2020.
Several companies within the industry have already voiced support for the initiative.
Cummins Inc. announced its support, noting that a streamlined, national regulatory program brings consistency which allows manufacturers to develop cleaner, more cost-effective solutions for their customers.
Daimler Trucks North America says it supports streamlining regulatory requirements and improving air quality, while maintaining a regulatory framework that encourages reliable, durable products with low Total Cost of Ownership.
