GMP Friction Products, one of the world's leading manufacturers of powdered metal friction products for clutch plates and brake pads, announced its self-certification as a woman-owned business. The United States government encourages companies to contract with Women Business Enterprises (WBE).
"Many companies and governmental agencies are interested in supporting diversity by doing business with women-owned businesses," says Jerry Lynch, President and COO of GMP Friction Products. "Their motivation is a desire to partner with high quality, reliable companies as well as to meet their supplier diversity goals."
The company is investigating other government diversity supplier programs through the Small Business Association. The SBA has developed a new third-party certification program designed to support women-owned businesses called the Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) program. The SBA announced in February, 2011 that the new Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Contract Program expects to award their first contracts later this year.
