Roxtec seals provide dust and condensation protection to Komatsu mining equipment

Komatsu has begun using Roxtec seals, which feature an IP66/67 rating to protect against the ingress of dust and condensation.

Komatsu is a builder of large crawler excavators and loading shovels for the very tough working and climatic conditions in the mining industry. The manufacturer wanted to replace its current electrical sealing system that was difficult to install and did not ensure a proper seal against routine dust and post-work steam cleaning condensation.

Roxtec’s seals are now used by Komatsu to handle high and low tension main electric cables and low-pressure hydraulic installations on board Komatsu's loading shovels. The reasons for the switch--Roxtec’s sealing solution solved Komatsu's dust and condensation problem with an IP66/67 rating.

Roxtec’s solution also provided the flexibility to easily handle different cable and hose dimensions, thanks to the technology called Multidiameter. One single module can seal a cable or pipe over a span of several different diameters simply by peeling layers from the module halves. This ensures a perfect fit.

Another benefit for Komatsu--Roxtec sealing solutions are simple and reduce the time for installation compared to a hand fitting system. Komatsu’s Mr. Heimersheim, who is responsible in the workshop for the electrical assemblies, states, "The Roxtec system is very flexible for our usage and easy to work with in a lot of special applications.”
