Liebherr components division exhibiting at CONEXPO

At the Liebherr CONEXPO booth, the company's components division will exhibit several technologies including a Tier 4 Final engine.

At the CONEXPO in Las Vegas, USA, Liebherr-Components will present various innovative components at a special pavilion within the Liebherr Group booth in the Outdoor Area Gold 3 lot 2155. The exhibits from the mechanical, hydraulic and electronic drive systems areas have been developed and manufactured at the various competence centres of the components division, and demonstrate the exceptional bandwidth of the division’s product program.

New generation of diesel engines

At CONEXPO, trade and other visitors will be able to see the latest generation of Liebherr diesel engines. It complies with the U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final exhaust emission limits that come into force in 2014. Liebherr uses Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) only on these engines, an innovative technology that makes particulate filters unnecessary. The SCRonly system by Liebherr is particularly outstanding for its small installation space. The hydraulic driveline consisting of splitter box and several hydraulic pumps that is mounted to the V8 engine on display underlines the system expertise of Liebherr-Components.

Common-rail fuel injection systems from Liebherr

A highlight in the components pavilion is the new common-rail fuel injection system, with Liebherr’s own engine control units. These systems are already standard equipment on Liebherr engines with between four and twelve cylinders, but can be adapted for use on other manufacturers’ diesel engines. Liebherr common-rail systems are notable for exceptionally low fuel consumption and efficient combustion, both factors that reduce exhaust emissions.

New series-production travel drives

In the gear transmission area, a notable development is the new series-production range of travel-gear drives (FAT) with hydraulic motors. This series, developed and manufactured by Liebherr itself, consists of eleven transmissions in successive sizes, from FAT 325 to FAT 1600; they are available in crawler-crane or crawler-excavator versions. The corresponding Liebherr hydraulic motors of axial-piston type, with swashplate pitch adjustment, are supplied with these units and matched optimally to them. They ensure high levels of overall efficiency within compact dimensions, and an excellent power-to-weight ratio.

Large diameter bearings from local manufacture

Beside components from the production plants in Switzerland and Germany, large diameter bearings produced locally in North America are exhibited. At Monterrey in the Nuevo Leon province in Northern Mexico, setup of a production site for ball and roller bearing slewing rings up to a diameter of 3,500 mm (135 in.) began in 2009. Since start of production in 2010, several thousand large diameter bearings have been delivered and many customer-specific qualifications have been carried out.
