Elon Musk, founder of Tesla Motors, has announced his plans for the company to develop electric heavy-duty truck and buses. According to Musk's "Master Plan, Part Deux" these vehicles are in the early stages of development and expected to be revealed in 2017.
Musk said in his blog announcing the new master plan, "We believe the Tesla Semi will deliver a substantial reduction in the cost of cargo transport, while increasing safety and making it really fun to operate."
The electric buses are anticipated to be smaller than traditional buses on roadways today; Musk foresees "eliminating the center aisle and putting seats where there are currently entryways" while still accommodating wheelchairs, strollers and bikes.
In addition, he plans for vehicle automation to become more widely available in Tesla vehicles, including the new trucks and buses.
