Last week Elon Musk announced the Tesla semi truck will be unveiled in September of this year. While the company is still being tight lipped about the details of the semi truck, what we do know that it is set to reduce the cost of cargo transport while increasing safety.
Similarly, just a few days ago Toyota announced “Project Portal” to test the use of hydrogen fuel cells to power a Class 8 truck at the Port of Los Angeles.

Bob Carter, the Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor North America, said, "Toyota believes that hydrogen fuel cell technology has tremendous potential to become the powertrain of the future."

"But these better-known companies aren’t the first to develop alternative fueled trucks. Nikola Motor Company, for example, recently unveiled the fully-electric Nikola One truck. The truck is powered by custom hydrogen-electric fuel cells in the U.S. and Canada, or by a CNG turbine version in places where hydrogen is not readily available.
These cleaner, quieter, safer trucks are just a few examples of the many ways companies are already pushing the envelope when it comes to greenhouse gas reduction strategies and continuing to push the limits and expectations of alternative energy sources and the fuel efficiency gains we can accomplish with them.
