Improved Electronic Control Brings New eAxle Capabilities

Exro Coil Driver technology provides tighter control of electric motors for optimized performance and creation of next generation electric axles.

Power electronics company Exro is developing technology to bring what it calls intelligent electrification to the market. Sue Ozdemir, CEO of Exro, says this involves developing new controls for motors, batteries and generators.

The company recently formed a partnership with Linamar Corp. to develop the next generation of electrification technology. Ozdemir says the companies believe this will be through the creation of new eAxles which utilize Exro’s Coil Driver technology. Coil Driver helps to provide tighter electronic control of electric motors; this allows optimization of two separate torque profiles—one for torque and one for speed—within a single motor which enables it to dynamically have different torque and speed profiles within a driving cycle.

Thus far Exro has been developing and integrating its technology into heavy-duty commercial vehicle applications, but is now also entering the heavy-duty off-highway equipment market.
