Bosch Rexroth has put together high-performance components and a new software package that can significantly improve fuel efficiency of excavators. With the new DX340LC-3 (34 tons) and DX380LC-3 (38 tons) models – the latter being presented at bauma 2013 in Munich – the global manufacturer Doosan Infracore demonstrates how this technology works.
Doosan Infracore has developed a new line of excavators equipped with their new D-ECOPOWER technology, based on the Rexroth Virtual Bleed Off (VBO) solution and Rexroth components. According to Doosan, the DX340LC-3 equipped D-ECOPOWER yields up to 26% higher fuel efficiency, shows drastic improvements in comfort, and consumes 12% less fuel than the existing model.
“We are delighted to introduce the Rexroth VBO in the Doosan Infracore DX excavator range. We believe that this technology sets new standards in the industry,” says Peter Dschida, Vice President Sales Mobile Applications at Bosch Rexroth. The new DX340LC-3 and DX380LC-3 models are the result of a joint development project. bauma 2013 marked the launch of these excavators in Europe, North America and Korea.
VBO guarantees more comfort for the operator through fast machine response and high dynamic system stability. The flow rate and especially the pressure rise are specified by the software. This improves compatibility with current Tier 4 interim and future Tier 4 Final diesel engines, and makes it possible to meet market demand for sensitive control and optimal energy efficiency. The pump flow supplies just the amount of energy that the hydraulic consumers need.
With conventional systems, more hydraulic oil than the consumers require is often pumped through the excavator system. In contrast, the new system determines the quantity of oil needed via pressure sensors. The Rexroth VBO solution, which comprises a hydraulic two-circuit closed center system, plays a central role here. Specially developed VBO software and an electrically pressure-controlled pump are used to electronically (virtually) reproduce the conventional open center system as well as the resulting load sensitivity–an important feature for the operators. The electrically pressure-controlled pump can safeguard maximum system pressure and individual consumer pressure without losses by using variable pressure cut-off, for instance in the slew drive.
Rexroth Series 30 RC controllers are particularly suited for the implementation of the VBO software. Freely programmable RC controllers are a core element of the Bosch Rexroth Design and Application System (BODAS). The system is characterized by its consistent modular architecture with matched interfaces. Sensors, displays and joysticks complete the line of BODAS hardware modules. As a result, all components can be easily integrated, making it possible to develop effective machine controls quickly and at competitive cost. Existing solutions are simple and can be expanded with additional features. Thus, BODAS offers all components for a complete electrohydraulic drive system from a single source: comprehensive solutions that combine travel and working features in the best possible way.
