In 2013, more than 700 invention disclosures were submitted to Scania’s Patent Department, 40% over the 2012 figure.
A continuing trend is that the majority of these invention disclosures are generated in the development of electronics and control systems. Within Scania’s Research and Development, the departments for powertrain control systems development and the department for hybrid technology development submitted most ideas – five inventions per every ten employees.
Consequently, a new record of 285 first filed patent applications was set during the year. “We are excited to see new record levels year after year,” says Stina Sjögren Paulsson, Head of Scania’s Patent Department. “With all the inventions in our pipeline, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we reach an even higher figure when we summarize 2014.”
Since each patent application often triggers applications in several countries, Scania’s total patent portfolio has grown consistently for several years.
