The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) has released a new digital special report, "Sustainable Lubricants: A Stewardship-Driven Approach to Effective Outcomes," highlighting integrated approaches to sustainable development in the lubricant industry.
The report explores how ongoing improvements in lubricants and their applications have made sustainable formulations more accessible and affordable for industry professionals. According to the STLE, sustainability efforts must extend beyond marketing and publicity campaigns to achieve significant and lasting effects. The society identifies several factors motivating these measures, including customer requirements, regulatory restrictions, long-term performance benefits and cost incentives.
"Sustainability remains a key concern globally, and the lubricants industry faces both challenges and opportunities in this area," said STLE President Kevin Delaney of Vanderbilt Chemicals LLC. "This publication addresses the complexities of balancing performance with sustainability in the global regulatory environment."
The report suggests that these sustainability measures can be effectively implemented even when the primary organizational focus is not centered on environmental benefits, provided they align with cost and performance requirements.
The technical society, which serves the tribology and lubrication engineering business sector, has made the special report available for download on its website. STLE provides resources and technical information to help industry stakeholders navigate the evolving global regulatory landscape and performance demands.
