Comet Solutions launching suite of SimApps for gearbox development

The Comet Gearbox solution will provide a suite of SimApps designed to integrate tools used for gearbox development including CAD, FEA and multibody dynamics.

Comet Solutions Inc., the innovative provider of Simulation Applications (SimApps) for simulation-driven design, announces a program in support of Gearbox design and manufacturing. When complete, the Comet Gearbox solution will consist of a comprehensive suite of solution-specific SimApps designed to integrate the broad spectrum of tools used throughout Gearbox development: CAD, FEA, Multibody Dynamics, Gear/Bearing Simulation and CFD. These SimApps will provide an automated solution allowing manufacturers to predict and optimize performance in the areas of Acoustics/Vibration/Dynamics, Durability/Reliability, Efficiency and Cost/Weight management. Developed in cooperation with Advanced Drivetrain Engineering and Technology (ADET), powerful and web-deployable Comet Gearbox SimApps are currently available for Durability and Gears/Bearings.

ADET President & CEO Brian Wilson comments, “Traditionally, companies have expertise in various drivetrain component disciplines, such as gears, bearings, shafts and housings. Balancing the component requirements into the drivetrain system integration process can be challenging. Even more concerning, as companies expand their global engineering footprint, drivetrain systems work is often performed in multiple locations, with the component expertise diluted or unavailable. Comet promotes a systems-level engineering approach by allowing engineers to run simulations that span across various disciplines without the need to have a local component or system expert supervise the analysis work. Capturing and extending expert design guides and criteria empowers the entire global organization by aligning to predetermined quality standards for drivetrain system performance. Based on my experience, this will have significant ramifications throughout the industry; and Comet is uniquely positioned to provide the automation platform to support this.”

Comet President & CEO, Dan Meyer comments, “This program is an extension of our work to date in delivering practical simulation solutions to the drivetrain industry. As an example, American Axle Manufacturing and other leading manufacturers are reporting measurable improvements from the implementation of our drivetrain SimApp solutions. Earlier we announced partnerships with Advanced Drivetrain Engineering & Technology (ADET), Romax Technology Ltd. and Smart Manufacturing Technology (SMT). This activity is further evidence of our ongoing commitment to provide drivetrain and gearbox manufacturers with complete and advanced simulation technologies.  As the Comet gearbox initiative advances, we will be announcing new strategic partnerships, solution-specific gearbox simulation applications and related services.”
