NFPA Releases Three New Technical Documents

NFPA has published and released three new technical documents of ISO standards for the fluid power industry.

Three new technical documents have recently been published and are now available from the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA).

ISO 6162-1:2012 (supersedes ISO 6162-1:2002) Hydraulic fluid power – Flange connections with split or one-piece flange clamps and metric or inch screws – Part 1: Flange connectors, ports and mounting surfaces for use at pressures of 3.5 MPa (35 bar) to 35 MPa (350 bar), DN 13 to DN 127 [second edition]

Scope:  This part of ISO 6162 gives complete general and dimensional specifications for flange heads, split flange clamps (FCS and FCSM), one-piece flange clamps (FC and FCM), ports and mounting surfaces applicable to four-screw, split and one-piece flange clamp type tube connectors and hose fittings for use at pressures of 3.5 MPa (35 bar) to 35 MPa (350 bar). It also specifies the dimensions of the seals to be used, as well as the grooves that house the seals.

This part of ISO 6162 also recognizes the need to accommodate metric (type 1) screw fasteners, as well as to provide a means to use existing inch (type 2) screw fasteners.

These connections are intended for application in hydraulic systems on industrial and commercial products where it is desired to avoid the use of threaded connectors.

Surges of pressure higher than the nominal ratings will reduce the ability of the flange connections to retain the hydraulic fluid. This should be taken into account in the design of the hydraulic system.

Benefits:  This dimensional interchangeability standard benefits users by allowing them to purchase hydraulic flange connectors from multiple suppliers, and manufacturers of these connectors to benefit from economies of scale afforded by the standard.

ISO 6162-2:2012 (supersedes ISO 6162-2:2002) Hydraulic fluid power – Flange connections with split or one-piece flange clamps and metric or inch screws – Part 2: Flange connectors, ports and mounting surfaces for use at a pressure of 42 MPa (420 bar), DN 13 to DN 76 [second edition]

Scope:  This part of ISO 6162 gives complete general and dimensional specifications for flange heads, split flange clamps (FCS), one-piece flange clamps (FC) and ports applicable to four-screw, split and one-piece flange clamp type tube and hose connectors for use at 40 MPa (400 bar). It also specifies the dimensions of the seals to be used, as well as the grooves to house the seal.

This part of ISO 6162 also recognizes the need to accommodate metric (type 1) screw fasteners (for DN 13 to DN 76), as well as to provide a means to use existing inch (type 2) screw fasteners (for DN 13 to DN 51).

These connectors are intended for application in hydraulic systems on industrial and commercial products where it is desired to avoid the use of threaded connectors.

ISO 10770-2:2012 (supersedes ISO 10770-2:1998) Hydraulic fluid power -- Electrically modulated hydraulic control valves - Part 2: Test methods for three-port directional flow control valves [second edition]

Scope:  This part of ISO 10770 describes methods for determining the performance characteristics of electrically modulated hydraulic three-port directional flow control valves.

This type of electrohydraulic valve controls the direction and amount of hydraulic flow in a hydraulic system.

Benefits:  ISO 10770-2 benefits users of electrically modulated hydraulic three-port directional control valves by providing a standardized way for manufacturers of these components to determine and express key performance characteristics. This allows users to know if a particular component is suitable for the application and to compare the performance of components from different manufacturers.
