Komatsu and autonomy technology developer Pronto have announced a strategic collaboration to deploy an autonomous haulage solution for quarry operations in North America.
The partnership introduces Komatsu Smart Quarry Autonomous, powered by Pronto, a system which integrates Pronto’s autonomous technologies into quarry-sized haul trucks. The system is designed to connect with Komatsu’s existing Smart Quarry solutions platform.
The new solution is OEM-agnostic, allowing operators to retrofit existing Komatsu vehicles or purchase new haul trucks equipped with Pronto’s self-driving system. The companies state the technology is aimed at enabling 24/7 operation, improving safety by removing drivers from the immediate quarry environment, and providing consistent cycle times with better fuel efficiency.
“Previously, the most advanced autonomy was reserved for the largest mines," said Anthony Levandowski, CEO of Pronto. "Today, by combining Komatsu’s trusted hardware and vast support network with Pronto’s scalable, intelligent autonomous platform... we’re enabling a future of enhanced safety and incredible productivity that is now accessible to quarries of all sizes.”
Pronto’s system utilizes artificial intelligence and a range of sensors to perceive the vehicle's environment and navigate haul roads. It will be combined with Komatsu’s Smart Quarry Site fleet management and analytics suite to provide operators with operational data and real-time control.
Komatsu Smart Quarry Autonomous, powered by Pronto, will be available to customers through the Komatsu dealer network.
