On Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to extend financing from fuel tax dollars for the federal Highway Trust Fund until July. Passing 387-35, the reauthorization, is expected to pass the Senate, as well.
With this extension, transportation programs will continue to be fully funded at their current levels.
Many lawmakers have said they would have preferred an extension that lasted through the calendar year to not only ensure continued financing for infrastructure projects, but also to provide more time to develop a long-term solution.
The Highway Trust Fund is expected to become insolvent this summer.
