Twelve U.S. and foreign automakers have raised concerns with the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposed plan to increase the amount of ethanol in fuel to 15%. The EPA says the E15 fuel shouldn't be used in cars and light trucks older than model year 2001 or heavy-duty engine vehicles and off-road equipment older than model year 2000.
However, automakers worry that even newer car models might be damaged by the E15 fuel, as there haven't been enough conclusive studies yet on the corrosive effects of the increased ethanol use.
