DOE Announces $10 Million in Funding for Zero Emission Cargo Transport Vehicles

The U.S. Department of Energy announces funding of up to $10 million will be available in 2012 for cargo vehicles using electric transportation technologies.

Secretary Chu of the Department of Energy (DOE) has announced that up to $10 million in funding will be made available this year for electric cargo transport vehicles, such as trucks and forklifts.

The DOE is looking for applicants who can demonstrate their zero-emission technologies as well as document performance and cost data. The goal is to find technologies that can be brought into mainstream use by the freight transportation industry, reducing emissions and the country's dependence on foreign oil.

Funding is available to local governments and private companies who will match the DOE funding in a 50% cost-share.
