The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded over $5 million to 3M Company and Eaton Corporation for projects the two companies are working on to reduce the cost of fuel cells.
Over the course of three years, the companies' projects will focus on meeting specific cost targets and boosting the performance of fuel cells.
3M, working with other industry partners such as General Motors, will develop a durable, low-cost, high-performance membrane electrode assembly for fuel cell electric vehicles. Eaton, also working with several industry partners, is using advanced blower technology to develop and demonstrate an efficient and low-cost fuel cell air management system.
