Senate Ag Committee Approves $800 Million for Biofuels Funding

The Senate Agriculture Committee has approved $800 million in mandatory funding for biofuels as a part of the upcoming Farm Bill. Originally the bill did not include mandatory funding, but instead  an energy title that would have required the USDA to seek funding on an annual basis, leading to uncertainty and funding battles.

Several sentators worked together to add the mandatory funding to the Farm Bill, showing their support for advancing biofuel technologies.

The Senate also gave the Department of Energy (DOE) approval to move $100 million in previously authorized funds for advanced biofuels to invest in commercial-scale biofuel facilities. While the funding was originally intended for the DOE's biofuel partnership with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Department of Agriculture, it will now be used for producing military biofuels at an affordable price.
