Scanreco, a Stockholm-based provider of remote control technology, has entered into an agreement to acquire CrossControl, a supplier of advanced display computers and vehicle computing solutions for industrial machines. The combined group will have approximately 600 employees.8e3232215e140ada 800x800arScanreco

The strategic rationale for the acquisition is to integrate two complementary technology domains — remote control and onboard human-machine interface (HMI) and vehicle computing — within a single company. This is intended to reduce integration complexity for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and enable more unified, brand-specific user experiences. The joint product portfolio will include remote control solutions, on-board displays, vehicle computers, and machine control systems built on a modular and scalable software platform. This platform aims to provide a unified development environment for OEMs building increasingly connected and automated equipment. In connection with the acquisition, investor Priveq will join as a minority shareholder, while founders Kaj Johansson and Björn Askestig will remain majority shareholders and continue in their operational roles.

The acquisition addresses a growing industry trend where machine control and HMI systems are becoming more strategic for OEMs. As equipment becomes more intelligent and connected, the operator's role is evolving from direct control to supervision, increasing the demand for intuitive, unified control systems that can abstract machine complexity.

"This acquisition is part of our long-term plan and reflects a clear transformation in the market," said Peter Lageson, CEO of Scanreco. "Machine control and HMI are becoming more strategic to OEMs as software, connectivity and intelligence take on a greater role. By combining onboard and remote solutions with intuitive HMIs and strong computing capabilities, we help OEMs build machines that are more capable, more productive and ready for the future — while creating unique operator experiences."

By combining their respective strengths in remote and onboard systems, Scanreco and CrossControl aim to offer a more comprehensive technology partnership for OEMs. The move is positioned to support the development of next-generation, software-defined off-highway equipment by simplifying the integration of advanced control and HMI systems.
