Bergstrom Inc., a global leader in the design and supply of climate systems to the commercial vehicle industry, announces that it is sponsoring Breaking11, an organization that specializes in achieving increased fuel efficiency while lowering emissions and operating costs for Class 8 tractor-trailer combinations.

Breaking11, which is led by engineer and veteran truck driver Michael Niss, was created to make 11+ miles per gallon a reality for those in the trucking industry. By using a combination of existing technologies and aerodynamic features, Breaking11 hopes to create a truck that will maximize fuel efficiency, lower operating costs and produce cleaner emissions, reducing the carbon footprint of Class 8 tractor-trailer combinations.

The concept truck created by Niss and his team is a 2015 Kenworth T660 Glider with an 86-inch AeroCab AERODYNE Sleeper. It is powered by a remanufactured Detroit Diesel 12.7L 60 series engine with an Eaton Fuller 13-speed transmission. The tractor – affectionately referred to as “Faith” – pulls a 2015 MAC aluminum low ride flatbed, covered with a contoured Quick Draw Tarpaulin System.

As a sponsor, Bergstrom is providing Breaking11 a NITE Phoenix unit with an Espar heater, a basic install kit, a shore power battery charging system, Trojan batteries and a 2,000-watt inverter.

“We are proud to support Breaking11 in their mission to craft a more fuel-efficient and economical unit,” says Bill Gordon, Division President of Bergstrom Parts LLC. “At Bergstrom, we are big believers in practical approaches to solving real world problems and ‘Faith’ is a perfect example of this. It’s a working rig that actually hauls freight throughout North America.”
