At Agritechnica 2011, Dana Holding Corporation introduced its Spicer Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS), which delivers enhanced mobility and reduced fuel consumption for agricultural vehicles.

  • Maximizes mobility of agricultural tractors, combines and harvesters by adjusting tire pressure to provide optimum footprint on any given terrain
  • Enhances productivity in field operating environments through optimized traction, leak detection and reduced soil compaction
  • Extends tire life, improves fuel economy and increases vehicle stability during on-road transport
  • Allows vehicle operators to optimize traction by increasing or decreasing tire pressure with the push of a button
  • When transitioning to on-road travel, inflates tires to 1.6 to 1.8 bar and a 10 to 13% tread deflection
  • Minimizes tire contact with road surface to improve fuel efficiency and reduce tire wear
  • For field work, deflates tires to 0.6 to 0.8 bar and a 20 to 22% tread deflection, increasing tire contact with soil to improve traction and reduce soil compaction
  • Alerts when there's a tire leak, and automatically switches system to emergency mode
  • Emergency mode starts a continuous flow of air to affected tire to maintain a 30% tread deflection until operator can move vehicle to safety
  • System includes front axle and final reductions designed with special seals, ECU plus software, a pneumatic control unit, wheel valves, and quick-release valves
