Renault Trucks Unveils Second Generation Electric Trucks

Renault Trucks is unveiling a second generation of 100% electric vehicles, a complete range of 3.5-26 tonne vehicles for all urban uses.

Renault Trucks Ze Range

A pioneer in the field of electromobility, Renault Trucks accompanies the evolution of cities and markets its second generation of electric trucks. The Renault Trucks ZE range, comprising Renault Master ZE, Renault Trucks D ZE and Renault Trucks D Wide ZE, ranges from 3.5-26 tonnes and meets all urban uses of goods delivery and distribution, as well as waste collection.

Renault Trucks prepares the transition to electricity for 10 years

For Renault Trucks, electromobility has emerged as an early response to the problem of air quality and noise pollution in cities and one of the responses to global CO2 emissions.

For more than 10 years, the builder has been experimenting with electric trucks with partner customers in order to gather fundamental information on the use, battery behavior, recharging infrastructure and maintenance of electric trucks.

These experiments in real operating conditions have also enabled Renault Trucks' partner customers to support their own customers in understanding electrical technology. Renault Trucks also assists its know-how over several years of commercialization of a 100% electric truck, the electric Maxity.

"Ten years ago, we were the first to start with the goal of paving the way for the electric truck to improve the air quality in the city," explains Bruno Blin, President of Renault Trucks.

"Today, our range of electric vehicles is performing well and the experts in our network are ready to support our customers in their transition to electromobility. Ten years ago we started, today we are ready."

Zero-emission trucks that access unrestricted cities

Because recent technological developments now offer electric trucks the prospect of being economically profitable for transport professionals, Renault Trucks is launching the marketing of a complete ZE range.

Whatever the restrictions put in place in urban areas, Renault Trucks' ZE range vehicles will be able to carry out their mission without interruption. They represent ideal solutions for preserving air quality and reducing congestion, as they allow silent deliveries at staggered schedules and produce no local pollutants or CO2 emissions .

The major players in road freight transport are in favor of electromobility, like XPO Logistics. "XPO has always wanted to set an example in a context where the transport industry is becoming increasingly aware of the need to develop alternative engines," says Luis Gomez, managing director-transport, XPO Logistics Europe. "We congratulate Renault Trucks for investing in the development of electric vehicles that can move towards zero emissions." Renault Trucks is shaping the future of transport in a changing regulatory environment."

The Suez company is also particularly attentive to the arrival of Renault Trucks' ZE range. "We are very pleased to see the emergence of a new competitive industrial solution and to commit ourselves alongside Renault Trucks," explains Edouard Hénaut, General Manager of the Utilities department for the Recycling and Valorisation activity of Suez. "This new electric truck offering will enable Suez to support its customers in reducing their carbon footprint through a waste collection offering that is ever more respectful of the environment, without the emission of local pollutants or noise pollution."

Renault Trucks Master ZE, available from September 2018

Available in September 2018, the Renault Master ZE is perfectly adapted to last-mile deliveries and allows the user to access all urban areas, including those with traffic restrictions. Six hours are needed to fully charge the battery of this 100% electric utility.

Its load volume is identical to that of a Renault Master diesel, the batteries have been placed under the front seats. Available in six versions (four van and two floor-cab versions), the Master ZE will meet all the needs of professionals working in urban areas.

Finally, for a perfect safety of the driver, his load and city dwellers, the Master ZE is equipped as standard with a reversing camera, a reversing radar and an anti-blind mirror.

Renault Trucks D and Renault Trucks D Wide ZE, for urban distribution and waste collection

The D ZE will be available in a 16 tonne version optimized for urban distribution and controlled temperature distribution. As for the D Wide ZE, it will be available in 26 tonne version, optimized for waste collection. Both models will be manufactured in the manufacturer's factory in Blainville-sur-Orne in Normandy, starting in the second half of 2019.

The range of medium trucks in the ZE range of Renault Trucks can reach up to 300 km, depending on usage and battery configuration. The batteries represent the first item of expenditure when buying an electric truck. In order to preserve the payload and the economic competitiveness, Renault Trucks will propose different variants of autonomy in order to respond to the fair use.

In direct current, the lithium-ion batteries of the D ZE and D Wide ZE can be fully recharged in 1-2 hours via a 150 kW DCS Combo socket. For AC night charging, it takes 12 hours for a 300 kWh battery. In this case, an industrial type 380V, 32A three-phase plug is sufficient for the implementation of this load.

In order to adapt to all bodywork and to meet all needs, the Renault Trucks D ZE and Renault Trucks D Wide ZE are equipped with a PTO with a standard mechanical interface.
