Liebherr recently premiered its LB 16 battery-powered drilling rig. It features an electro-hydraulic drive concept and does not require being plugged in.
A battery is used in place of a diesel engine, enabling emissions-free operation of the machine. This also reduces the amount of noise generated by the drilling rig. The battery can last a full 10-hour work day before recharging is necessary. Standard electrical supplies can be used for recharging.
Liebherr's LB 16 is currently undergoing real-world testing at a construction site in western Austria.
