The Michelin Group’s Movin’On Summit gathered people from around the world to share ideas and collaborate on common industry challenges.
A presenter at the summit, Bertrand Piccard, an explorer and President of Solar Impulse, successfully flew a solar-powered plane around the world without the use of fuel. He reminded attendees that sometimes to inspire true innovation, you must go outside of your own industry.
Another transport solution of the future was presented by Robert Lloyd of Hyperloop One with the goal of moving people and goods using pod-like vehicles through reduced-pressure tubes at high speeds.
“There hasn’t been a new mode of transportation since the airplane,” Lloyd said. “We are not keeping up with the movement of people to cities, highway congestion or the pollution being emitted by currently available methods of transportation.”
During the summit, Michelin also unveiled its own VISION concept tire, an airless tire made completely of recyclable materials with a lightweight structure designed to be rechargeable.
