Western Star launches 4800SB all-wheel drive model truck

The new 4800SB all-wheel drive model Western Star truck offers additional traction for operation in severe off-highway applications.

Western Star Truck Sales Inc. announces the availability of its 4800SB all-wheel drive (AWD) model in an 8x8 axle configuration. Complementing Western Star’s rugged 4800 model lineup, the new configuration provides additional traction for the most extreme off-road conditions.

Suited for demanding utility, construction, government and refuse applications, the Western Star 4800SB 8x8 all-wheel drive is equipped with a two-speed transfer case which promotes excellent gradability and is ideal for low- and high-speed operations.

Spec’d with a 57,000 lb. tridem rear and a 23,000 lb. front axle, the 4800SB 8x8 AWD model is ideal for customers operating digger derricks and other specialized heavy equipment. Additionally, the transfer case is equipped with integral air shift controls for front axle engagement and features helical gears with constant mesh to minimize operating noise.

The 4800SB 8x8 all-wheel drive truck is available with power ratings from 350 to 470 hp and 1,250 to 1,650 lbs.-ft. of torque and features a short 109 in. BBC to provide optimal power and maneuverability in tight work spaces. The 4800SB is also spec’d with an air ride suspension for a more comfortable ride.
