STW introduces new TC3G telematics, data management and gateway module

At Agritechnica 2015, STW and co-developer Cumulocity exhibited the TC3G module which enables users to design Internet of Things solutions designed specifically for their applications.

Together with Cumulocity, STW has made it possible for its customers to design an “Internet of Things” (IoT) solution optimally adapted to their requirements. As no programming knowledge whatsoever is required to achieve this, application-specific changes can be conducted quickly and inexpensively even by non IT specialists. The resulting advantages for the customer are clear. Due to the much shorter “time-to-market,” the increased flexibility and the optimum use of the available company-internal resources, a significant competitive advantage results in comparison to rival companies.

Cumulocity’s cloud-based and horizontal Machine-to-Machine (M2M) solution provides an integrated IoT platform in order to optimize the costs of the connection of M2M-linked sensors and devices and to realize them within the shortest possible time. Application developers can thus concentrate fully on the development of M2M services for their decentralized devices and substantially accelerate the market introduction of their own IoT offering.

The machine data relevant for the customer is recorded and consolidated via the on-board module TC3G. The parameterization of the signals to be recorded takes place in a highly dynamic, scalable manner, adaptable at any time, through an HTML-based configuration interface. This is provided directly by the on-board module via a Web server. The access can take place locally at any time through a Wi-Fi network (WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n) or via remote access using a mobile phone connection (2G/3G, CDMA) via a Web browser. The data subsequently recorded can be put into interim storage in the 1 GB data memory of the Linux-based STW teleservices unit, and sent to the Cumulocity cloud once the data connection is secured.

In order to achieve optimum networking of very different control units and sensors using the TC3G within a vehicle, the TC3G provides numerous wired and wireless communication possibilities in addition to the interfaces already named. These include several CAN interfaces, Ethernet (IEEE802.3 10/100 Mbit), RS232, USB and Bluetooth 4.0. Furthermore, a GPS/GLONASS receiver is available for correct position recording.
